Secret Lives of Books

Books are the shoes with which
we tread the footsteps of great minds.
The man who doesn't read good books
has no advantage over the man
who can't read them.
Mark Twain
Need an idea for a holiday gift for the book lover in your life? Then I have just the book Forgotten Bookmarks by Michael Popek to recommend.  The author worked for many years in his family's used bookstore in New York. It was there he discovered all kinds of placeholders left inside worn volumes. In the book he has photographed and written about 150 plus of his fascinating finds. I must say it is an unusual read. And the photographs of these placeholders with their antique worn look are quite lovely.

The following is a link to party appetizers using puff pastry. Both are quite easy to prepare and certainly will dazzle your guests with your culinary skills. I would suggest on the Spinach Cheese Swirls consider decreasing the amount of spinach and increasing the amount of cheese. I found that the amount of spinach was too much.
