A Kid Friendly Meal

This is a kid friendly meal that will surely please the palette of parents too. The recipe has been posted before using it as an appetizer with chips. But when I discovered a soft taco reimagined shaped like a boat I knew this taco filling would be perfect. Imagine all the possibilities with this floured shell!
The filling is so easy even kids can put it together.
Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 3/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 jar of chunky salsa (16 oz.)
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 8 oz. refried beans
  • 1-1/2 cups grated co-jack cheese
  • garnish chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, olives
Directions:
  • In a large fry pan brown hamburger with onions, drain grease and wipe pan clean
  • Return hamburger to pan and crumble meat
  • Add in salsa, chili powder, refried beans and mix well
  • Heat uncovered on low 20 minutes, stir a few times
  • Add in grated cheese and cook 10 minutes longer

Grilled Pound Cake S'mores
Cook's Notes and Directions: recipe from http://kimmiepaull.blogspot.com/
Slice the pound cake into 12 slices to make 6 s'mores sandwiches. Lightly brush melted butter on the bottom side of six slices and spread chocolate on the top (I made half s'mores with milk chocolate and half with dark chocolate indulgence spread). The butter helps to prevent it from sticking to the grill while giving you the beautiful grill lines and the chocolate spread helps work as a wonderful glue to hold in the chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.

12 mini marshmallows and a handful of chocolate chips were used per slice. Then top with another slice of pound cake that has chocolate spread facing inwards and brush melted butter on top. I grilled the s'mores sandwiches on low heat for about 3-4 minutes per side. So glad I used the chocolate spread because without this "glue" chocolate chips and marshmallows would have been falling out when we flipped them for sure! Be sure not to burn the bottoms but allow them to grill long enough to give grill marks on the cake and melt all the goodness inside.

This was quite a yummy treat even parents would like.

Kraft Philadelphia Indulgence Dark Chocolate Cream Cheese Spread

Ingredients:

  • mini marshmallows
  • Indulgence Dark Chocolate Cream Cheese Spread
  • Sara Lee frozen pound cake thawed
  • mini chocolate chips

If your loaf of bread is starting to go stale, just put a piece of fresh celery in the bag and close it back up.

For burnt rice, place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavour.

Don’t store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits.Separate your bananas and place each in a different location. Bananas release gases which cause fruits (including other bananas) to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.
