Boston Part 2

  • From 1659-1681, it was against the law to celebrate Christmas in Boston  because the Pilgrims thought it was corrupt.
  • The Boston University Bridge on Commonwealth in Boston is the only place in the world where a boat can sail under a train driving under a car under an airplane.
  • "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" is celebrating 100th anniversary.
  • Only in America (Boston) runs on Dunkin' Donuts as there are 70 stores in one square mile.
Omni Parker House
It was founded by Harvey D. Parker in 1855 in Boston. It is a full service hotel that has maintained  its 19th century charms and sense of history. It was here the Saturday Club met the last Saturday afternoon of the month beginning in 1855. Typical illustrious members included poets, essayists and preeminent transcendentalists. Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Dickens and Dr. Wendall Holmes were some of the members.
Not only was The Parker House famous for Parker House Rolls and Boston Cream Pies but the legacy of JFK. It was here he announced his race for the senate and then presidency and proposal to Jacqueline.  This corner table at the restaurant is where JFK proposed to her. We wanted to sit there but the table had already been booked.
I really like the Old Town Trolley Tours. You get a great overview of the city with interesting facts supplied by the driver plus you are able to hop off and on at 16 different stops. This town is filled with lots of history. Take for instance...
A newly erected statue of Edgar Allen Poe, surrounded by squares of his quotes.

This is the church where Rose Fitzgerald was baptized and also where her funeral took place.
Paul Revere's home.

  Liberty Bell

North End of town has an abundance of Italian eateries.
Cheers, the bar where everybody knows your name.

Faneuil Hall, the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Two days in Boston was not enough but all the time we had to explore the city. Our tour starts tomorrow going north to Bar Harbor, Maine.

  1. Thanks for these tours of the place where my son is currently living. Makes me miss him even more. But only a few months until Christmas and time for him to return to Minnesota.

Looks like you're having a fabulous time.
