Meet Krista Rolfzen Soukup

I had the pleasure of interviewing Krista for the following article published in the July issue Lakes Area Living, Brainerd MN
Krista Rolfzen Soukup, a multi-talented literary publicist and marketing consultant, owns Blue Cottage Agency founded in 2009. Her agency promotes and represents writers, books, and the literary arts. It provides publicity and marketing services to literary artists, publishers and literary arts organizations.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing with over 20 years of experience in sales, promotions and marketing. Krista has taught classes and presented workshops at the local and national level on publishing, publicity, marketing, social media, and speaking.

Her job also entails consulting with published authors and publishers, providing them with a strategy and guidance for their specific project and brand. Her hybrid business model of working as both a publicist and agent has worked out well. As technology and the market continue to change, her agency will evolve. One of her greatest job satisfaction is helping an author realize their dream of writing and publishing.

Krista is a notable presence in promoting arts in the community. She is a member of the Friends of the Public Library and volunteers with marketing and its services. Krista has worked closely with the library to book author presentation and develops workshops. She believes we have one of the top libraries in the country, in terms of leadership, programming, and support from and to the community.

Krista has been involved in bringing literary arts support and resources to the Crossing Arts Alliance through classes and workshops. She is proud of the fact that Crossing Arts Alliance has put literary arts on the map in Minnesota as one of the leaders in offerings and support, including Poetry on the Wall I, II, III, Behind the Bricks, Creative Writers Workshop, Dimensions of Motherhood and Boot Camp for Writers.

Krista is particularly proud of her involvement in Behind the Bricks. It is a published book of the Crow Wing county inmates’ writing, along with a community and jail exhibit. The project won an award, and Krista believes this project had a profound effect on the community and will continue to do so.

Krista is a single parent of four children. She stays connected to her community through volunteer opportunities with her children’s activities at their local church, Boy Scout troop, gymnastics, soccer, and tennis. Time and trying to balance raising kids with a full time job are personal challenges for Krista.

Krista feels the literary community in the Central Lakes Area is thriving with so many talented writers working on their craft, strong leaders in the community, and the Five Wings Arts Council grants which supports the literary arts.

One can’t help but admire Krista’s dedication and support promoting the literary arts. Her creative energy and talents, as well as her enthusiasm, inspire others to do their best. Krista’s knowledge of the changing publishing industry and her skills using technology and social media make her stand out.
