I Love To Read Month

In this photo my daughter is hoping to interest Sadie in Go Dog Go by Dr. Seuss. She is doing her best to get Sadie on board for I Love To Read Month. Each teacher was to submit photos of engaged readers and this photo was clearly a winner.
Many of the classrooms submitted photos of their students reading. February is I LOVE TO READ month for schools across the nation with activities that encourage and celebrate reading. Book reading activities are extended into the first week of March to coincide with National Read Across America Day held on a school day that is closest to Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2.

On January 29, 2013 the Caldecott and Newbery winners were announced. These medals honor outstanding writing and illustrating of published books during the previous year.
The One and Only Ivan  by Katherine Applegate is the Newbery Best of 2012 Middle Grades. The story is narrated by Ivan, an easy going Silverback gorilla. He lives near exit 8 at the Big Top Mall. Ivan has grown accustomed to people watching him through the glass wall of his domain. In fact he has been in this tourist trap for 27 years in a cage but really does not miss his jungle life. He thinks a lot about art and Ivan's world changes when he meets Ruby,a baby elephant.
This story is based on a true story of a gorilla who was in captivity for more than a quarter of a century but now happily lives at the Atlanta Zoo. He is renowned for his art. The story tackles themes of morality and compassion.
The Caldecott picture book winner for 2012 is This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen. It is an engaging witty story only 32 pages long that tells about a little fish who steals a hat from a very big fish and hopes to get away with it. The main character, the little fish, tells the story yet the illustrations tell the reader another story. While the story line is simple, it tackles themes of morality and compassion.
Perhaps this might be the story for Sadie after she finishes Go Dog Go.

Just like Charlie Brown who is waiting at his mailbox for valentines so are the kindergartners   All of their 26 bags were neatly lined along the window ledge ready for the big day and hoping for lots of valentine mail.
One young lady had picture perfect hair all ready for the party.
