And So the Road Trip Continues

Leaving Glenwood Springs

Check out the view Bryan looks at every day. On the other side of the houses is a  river a perfect place for kayaking, paddleboard, and fly fishing.  I have concluded Colorado is one of the most scenic states with such a variety of terrain. From the mountains, lakes, streams, forests there is something for everyone. Driving through canyons, past ski areas all nestled in by monstrous mountains is an epic drive for sure. It was a surprise to see so much snow still left.

Destination Cheyenne Wyoming
I had high expectations for this town-thinking on the lines of seeing an old-fashioned western type town maybe like Tombstone, AZ. Perhaps I've been reading too many western novels lately. While the town did have an old-fashioned vibe it seemed like for a capital city in bit of a need for a facelift. It looks like they are trying with many colorful murals painted on the sides of different buildings in the downtown area.
In the city center square, we found this steampunk horse made out of gears. It was a very fine piece of art.
If you visit Cheyenne be sure to look for the eight-foot-tall cowboy boots that have been carefully painted by local artists to show the history of Cheyenne and Wyoming. Go on a scavenger hunt and find them all! Location maps are available at the Depot in the Visitors Center. We easily found the painted boots scattered about the downtown area.

I thought this boot was particularly creative listing all the past governors of Wyoming
SideNote: There are ten days in July when tens of thousands of people descend on Wyoming's capital for Cheyenne Frontier Days, the biggest rodeo event in America. It dates back to 1897, making it the second-oldest event in the USA after Mardi Gras. In addition to the rodeo, there are parades, concerts featuring national acts, and costumes galore.

The big reveal tomorrow will be our last destination before Minnesota. It's a place of historical importance.
