Nice is the capital of the Rivera, the fifth largest city in France. It sits at the foothills of the French Alps along the Mediterranean Sea. This is our first destination on a 12 day riverboat cruise on the Rhone. 7 days are spent on the boat and the trip ends in Paris. It has been an adventure as we navigate public transportation, having correct change for the restrooms, figuring out the hotel showers and menus. The sea is a absolutely beautiful aquamarine color. The city was part of Italy till mid 1800's so the architecture is Italian influenced. It reminds me of Sorrento and the Amalfi coastline. The city is densely populated with apartments/homes built into the hills. The tourist industry is main economical activity with shopping, beaches and museums.
