Goodbye Kindergarten-Hello First Grade

The anticipation was high with only two full days of school left for Room 13. It was a good day for bubbles . 

 

A fun  way to spend some morning time outside on a very nice weather day. 
The rest of the morning went quickly by as they enjoyed the story "First Grade Stinks." 

Mary Ann Rodman's book First Grade Stinks is about a girl who is angry that her new class, first grade, is nothing like kindergarten. I liked this book and thought it would be a good book for students to read at the beginning of the school year. The book would be especially good for students entering the first grade to read because they would be able to relate to it, whether or not they like the different classroom because it is still a change for any student. I thought some of the pictures were nice because they showed the distinction between kindergarten and first grade. The pictures were not extravagant, but they got the point across. Haley's realization that first grade is different, but different is not always a bad thing at the end of the book is a good lesson for students entering a new grade who may be worried that the classroom may be too different than the previous one. 

Then some show and tell. I was impressed how much their printing has improved the past few months.

And how well they can read.

They're very proud of their work all wrapped up in a portfolio to take home.

Room 13 is more than ready for summer vacation to begin.
