Durango CO

WITH A TRAIN RIDE
Stop #1 DURANGO COLORADO

ALL ABOARD
The historic railway has been in continuous operation between Durango and Silverton since 1882, taking guests on plush vintage steam locomotives through the stunning San Juan National Forest. It is a National Historic Landmark as well as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of yesteryear. The spring excursion is 5-1/2 hours round trip. The summer route is an 8 hour round trip with a halfway stop at Silverton. The oil-fired steam locomotive chugs its way up and around down on the same track that the miners, settlers and cowboys of the Old West took nearly a century ago.
Masks were required Charley removed his only for photo.
Parts of the ride were a bit harrowing with the steep climb up.
Enjoy the ride with stunning views, sweeping vistas and spectacular terrain.

The town of Durango was in full spring bloom with flowering dogwoods. apple blossoms, green grass, daffodils, and budding trees. Coming from a landscape of lot of rocks and cacti this seemed like a piece of heaven.
