Vintage Finds

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you

have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to

reach for the stars to change the world."

by Harriet Tubman
As of late I have been scouring some local antique stores in search of vintage finds.
I found these and now I am looking  for the perfect hat.
and a perfect dress. I have a upcoming tea/lunch date that requires vintage attire.

After reading The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean I am really "pumped" to find just the right dress and hat to go with my newly purchased gloves. Since I have a fondness for vintage clothing this book cover drew me quickly into the story.
The main character Dora, a college student, is trying to figure out what she really wants to do in life. A phone call from back home that her grandmother, Mimi is dying sends Dora into a frenzy. Mimi has raised Dora since she was a young child. In a closet at her grandmother's house Dora rediscovers many vintage clothes that her grandmother has been saving for her to wear over the years. Dora takes over running her grandmother's vintage clothing stores. It is here Dora begins to learns some of these dresses come with their own stories.
This book is Dora's story of her journey of self-realization. She begins to notice all the blessings Mimi has brought into her life. Dora's story ends with some new directions in her life.
If you enjoy vintage clothing and wonder what stories they might tell you might also like the book A Vintage Affair.  Do you have any items in your closet right now that have a story to tell?

This book is set in England. A woman opens up a vintage dress shop. The customers who bring dresses in to sell come with their own stories.

  "How will it be
to lie in the sky
without roof or door
and wind for an eye

With cloud for shift
how will I hide?
"
Question by May Swenson
Clothing can be a form of self expression like poetry. There are actually odes and dedicated poetry poetry to clothing. I found this poem and picture at http://heyviv1950s.blogspot.com/2010/02/clothing-can-be-form-of-self-expression.html
Check other clothing poems out at the above link. Perhaps you are inspired to pen your own "clothing poem."
Please note: In the header left side I added a new link to poets.org. It is a free site and you can even have a poem a day delivered to your mail inbox!!
