Pete The Cat

Pete The Cat books by Eric Litwin are quite popular with 4-8 year old group. Pete is one cool cat and if you go to YouTube  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuHzYssjjGc the author reads this book and the kids sing Pete's song.
Litwin has written a whole series of picture books with Pete the Cat as the main character.
This book remains his most popular.
Pete the Cat goes walking down the street wearing his brand new white shoes. Along the way, his shoes change from white to red to blue to brown to WET as we steps in piles of strawberries, blueberries and other big messes! But no matter what color his shoes are are, Pete keeps movin' and groovin' and singing his song...because it's all good.

Today one of my tasks in the kindergarten class was to take pictures of their shoes. The teacher has planned a photo collage of their shoes for a bulletin board display to go with the book.
It was an interesting revelation for the photographer.

Shoe tying is almost non-existent in week 4 of school so I was encouraged by this young gentleman who assured me he knew how to tie his shoes AND did not want help.
This young man came to school without shoelaces so keeping his shoes tied was not a problem.

These fancy shoes got my #1 vote. The tops were suede.
Velcro shoes are popular. And you don't have to worry about tying.
An embellishment of Disney characters made these shoes unique.

The following pictures were taken for my husband.  After my last kindergarten visit upon hearing all the lessons and technology he wondered where did playtime go?
The proof is in the pictures...it still exists.

  1. What a creative idea, to photograph students' shoes to accompany this book. I love when teachers step outside the box.

Great, too, to see that kids still have free play time. I'm of the belief that kids' lives are way too structured and scheduled (specifically outside of the classroom). That squelches imaginative play and creativity. Too many kids rely on outside sources to entertain and fill their hours to the point they don't know HOW to play alone. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.
