Poetry On The Wall Event

This weekend I am involved in a poetry event, "Poetry on the Wall II" sponsored by Crossing Arts Alliance  located in the Franklin Art Center, Brainerd, Minnesota. There will be a reading and reception from 1-3 pm.
Award-winning author Sheila O'Connor ( Sparrow Road, Where No Gods Came and Tokens of Grace) will be a part of the event.
"Poetry on the Wall" is currently on display in the Q Gallery until February 28th.

The exhibit features over fifty poems by twenty-one poets that reside in Region Five. Selected poems will be read  and a people's choice and top three poems will be awarded. A booklet of the selected poetry is available for purchase.
This project, under the artistic direction of Millie Morris and managed by Krisita Rolfzen Soukup of Blue Cottage Agency, was made possible through a grant from Five Wings Arts Council.

Follow this link to a news segment regarding the event with an interview with one of the poets, Doris Stengel. She discusses the art of poetry and her writing journey.
This is one of the three poems I submitted.

Autumn Ablaze

The season starts with a slow burn

as feathery grasses turn buff
and Tamaracks a mustard yellow.

A red- tailed hawk soars above
carpets of persimmon and bittersweet,
Monarch butterflies mob
a burnished bush.

Geese veer so low
you can hear
beating of their wings
as they swoop the lake.

A crackling bonfire
releases clouds of red-orange sparks
flying into the cold night sky
our laughter fades into
contented silence
as embers flicker
and smolder.

Autumn stretches ahead
like a winding country road
with maples and sumacs
bursting into flames
autumn is ablaze.
