Northwoods Arts Council brought back for a second year the ever popular Josh Duffee and his Big Band. The spectacular event brought big city entertainment to our area at small town prices.
Northwoods Arts Council brought back for a second year the ever popular Josh Duffee and his Big Band. The spectacular event brought big city entertainment to our area at small town prices.
Josh Duffee is regarded as one of the world's greatest 1920's style percussionists. He performs at numerous jazz festivals and concerts world wide. Josh also is an accomplished jazz historian who gives lectures at high schools and colleges and adds interest at his concerts by relaying fun facts about songs and performers who have made them famous. He takes great pride in authentically representing jazz music from the 1920's through the 1940's. He surrounds himself with like minded musicians. These talented professionals brought impressive credentials to each evening's performance. They all share a passion for playing big band era favorites.
Dancing was encouraged during the concerts. Many got into the swing of the evening out on the dance floor. Each concert was different with an impressive list of big band tunes.
Saturday a free band educational clinic was held for music students. It was an opportunity for the students to work with Josh and some of his band members to learn new techniques and improve their musical skills.
Josh and his Big Band did not disappoint the crowd. The foot tapping high energy crowd was wowed and anticipate their 2017 return to our area.
Josh's dedication to his craft and desire to impart his knowledge to those who come to his concerts impressed me the most.
