And indeed it was a lovely sunset to behold.
Maple Dijon Sausage Bites
Cook's Notes: The perfect last minute appetizer especially when all ingredients were readily available. The recipe was slightly adapted from mixandmatchmama.com
The combinations of sweet and savory with unusual pairing of ingredients worked quite well. So many flavors come together in one simple bite. These mini bites taste great as a breakfast item. Taste test before increasing Dijon mustard.
- 1 package fillo shells
- 1 lb. Italian sausage or breakfast sausage
- 1 TB. olive oil
- 3 TB. maple syrup
- 1-1/2 -2 TB Dijon mustard
- 1/3 cup green onion, diced
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1-1/2 cup shredded sharp white cheddar cheese (I used shredded 4 cheeses)
- Brown sausage in olive oil with green onions. Drain grease, crumble and return back to pan. Add syrup, mustard, and seasoning. Mix we;; on medium low about 8 minutes. Add in cheese and stir until it melts.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Fill each fillo cup (no need to thaw) with 1 tablespoon of filling. Place fillo cups in a small muffin tin which helps them be more stable.
- Bake 8-10 minutes.
Sunsets rate as one of God's most spectacular works of art, in my opinion. Thanks for taking me along to see this one.
