Happy National S'mores Day

 NATIONAL S'MORES DAY

Rejoice! Today is National S’mores Day which recognizes the most popular campfire treat! People of all ages love this gooey, toasted treat.

The origin of this tasty snack is credited to the entrepreneur Alec Barnum. However, the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the 1927 publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Even though the Girl Scouts were not the first ones to make S’mores, Girl Scout groups describe them in their reports as early as 1925. Earlier recipes used the name “Some Mores.” It is unclear when the word “S’mores” became the more common name.

Today, many variations on the original S’mores find their way around a campfire.
Ever Ready has got you covered with a few easy variations.

S'more Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cook's Notes: They are chewy, chocolaty, and chocked with favorite S'more campfire flavors. It's important to keep the dough chilled between batches.

Ingredients:

  • Your favorite chocolate chip dough
  • Large marshmallows, quartered
  • Hershey candy pieces
Directions:

  • Make your favorite chocolate chip dough and chill in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Form dough into 2 inch balls. Press a quarter piece of marshmallow into the top of each ball.
  • Bake 10-11 minutes. Cool cookies for 5 minutes and then press candy piece on top and cool on a wire rack.

My supplies are ready to go. How about you?

  1. I didn't know there was such a day. Nearly every time Randy grills, we have s'mores. We smear our graham crackers with peanut butter then add the Hersheys piece and toasted marshmallow. Yum.
