St. Swithin's Day

My interest was peaked today when I saw information on St. Swithin's Day which is celebrated in the UK.  Tradition has it that whatever the weather is like on July 15th that  weather will continue for the next 40 days. It is predicted that much of the UK will be dry on July 15th so by old wives standards means that next 40 days clear weather will follow.
Here in Minnesota if we were to embrace this folklore we'd be in trouble. We are experiencing a very hot muggy dry spell and even a prediction of 100 on Monday July 16th.
Perhaps you are wondering who St. Swithin is. He was a Saxon bishop of Winchester and  earned fame for  building churches and his charitable gifts.
All eyes definitely are on the UK during the next few weeks with upcoming Olympics. Despite the prediction of a dry July 15th in the UK region unsettled weather for the upcoming weeks is in the forecast.
If you are lucky enough to be going to the Olympics good idea to take a raincoat just to be on the safe side.
