Bits and Pieces of Everyday Life

I found the perfect place to take a contemplative walk. My friend lives near a cemetery and often takes her morning walks there. I joined her recently and was a bit awestruck over the beauty, serenity of the landscape and attention to the detail. Usually cemetery visits one is preoccupied with thoughts of someone who has just died.

There were some impressive looking stone mausoleums.
Besides a peaceful walk a cemetery can be a great place to explore local history and genealogy. On this particular day my friend had a few surprises for me. Our walk led us to where her mother was buried. I was touched by the fact her home was in such close proximity to her mother's grave-a way to keep her mother's memories close.
The other surprise was this quilted heart my friend had found hanging on a basket recently on one of her walks through the cemetery.

Spreading joy one little heart at a time.

The tag reads Report Me As Found and FB link to follow others who have found quilted hearts. It's like a Pay it Forward concept but no money is involved. There is a website devoted to I Found A Quilted Heart  project with lots of information.

The IFAQH project is simple: place hearts in a public place to be found by a random stranger. That’s it!
NO one profit financially from this project. There is no catch, no hidden agenda, nor any underlying motive and no fee to participate, just the cost of supplies needed to create your handcrafted hearts if you so chose.
You are encouraged to be creative  and sew your own hearts and place them somewhere for a random stranger to find.
It's important to attach a tag listing the website www.ifoundaquiltedheart.com and a note that says, “I Need A Home.”
Check it out. Certainly an interesting concept to lighten someone's load and make their  day a little bit brighter.
A charming novel chronicling the lives of people affected by, and living through, the German occupation of Guernsey in World War II.  The story is cleverly written correspondence between people living in different places during a wartime and  after and how a literary and potato peel society come together to change other people's lives.

The book recently has been made into a Netflix movie with one of my favorite stars in the leading role Lily James.

Looking for inspiration for your fall cooking and baking? I suggest you run not walk to your local grocery store or bookstore to get BHG newest  special publication. It's an impressive spread with a mouthwatering sections on apples, savory root vegetables and butternut squash and stews, all things maple, hot and bubbly fruit desserts, creative broccoli dishes, revisiting pumpkin and oh, lets not forget...who doesn't like a little bacon now and then.
