Scrabble and Holiday Treats

Scrabble was designed (or invented) by Alfred Mosher Butts, a jobless architect, during the Great Depression. For many years, it was rejected by game publishers before one of Butts' friends, James Brunot, started making several dozen copies a week. Brunot also coined the name Scrabble (the game had previously been called Lexico and Criss Cross Words).

Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by placing tiles, bearing a single letter, onto a gameboard which is divided into a 15×15 grid of squares. The tiles must form words which, in crossword fashion, flow left to right in rows or downwards in columns. The words must be defined in a standard dictionary with a list of officially permissible words.

The name Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro, Inc. in the United States and Canada; elsewhere, it is a trademark of Mattel. The game is sold in 121 countries and is available in 29 languages; approximately 150 million sets have been sold worldwide and roughly one-third of American homes have a Scrabble set.

In case you have wondered exactly how many tiles there are in box its 100. Tiles for craft projects can be purchased at craft stores, online or found at flea markets so you don't have to use any of the 100 tiles in a game box.

Reindeer Chow Poem

When reindeer fly on Christmas night,
They work up quite an appetite!
But Mrs. Claus knows what to do,
To feed them when the flight is through.
She mixes up some Reindeer Chow.
A secret only she knows how.

With something salty, something sweet,
It’s Rudolph’s favorite reindeer treat.
Back in her kitchen at the Pole,
She heaps it high in every bowl
To welcome her returning crew.
So here’s a batch that’s just for you!
