Traveling Hill Country to LBJ State Park, Ranch and Texas White House

Texas is known for wide open spaces and doing everything big. It was evident visiting the land of LBJ. His ranch sprawls over 1,500 acres maintained by the National Park Service. It is a working ranch, including a herd of cattle descended from Johnson's original Hereford breed. You can tour the entire Ranch at you own pace and stop at sites along the way such as the President's birthplace and Johnson family cemetery. They also have a unique attraction at the park an authentic working farm that demonstrates the lifestyle of a typical Hill Country farm between 1915-1918.
President Johnson had a deep attachment for place and heritage. The LBJ Ranch was where he was born, lived, died, and was buried. The President and Mrs. Johnson donated their private home to the National Park Service but retained lifetime rights to use the house. After the President's death in 1973, Mrs. Johnson continued to live at the Ranch part time until her death in 2007. Following her death preparations began to make the home available for public tours.
President Johnson's office (the west room) was opened to the public on the 100th anniversary of his birth, August 27, 2008. The living room and dining room were opened in June 2009. By December 2011 the entire first floor was opened to the public. As part of the self-guided Ranch Tour, you may stop at the Texas White House for a ranger-guided tour which gave us a more intimate look into life of LBJ and Lady Bird.
Photos were not allowed inside house which is a step back into time with much of the original furnishings of the 60's right down to yellow Formica kitchen counters, shag carpeting and personal clothing.
The garage houses his personal collection of cars including his infamous amphibious 1961 automobile a car he'd drive and prank his guests with.
Outside parked on the runway in a hangar is a
Lockheed JetStar aircraft used by former President Lyndon Johnson during his years as vice president and then as president.
The Crepe Myrtle are in full bloom everywhere.
Several hours later we arrived at our final destination Waco, Texas  with a sizzling temperature of 100 degrees. Lucky we started the day with a nutritious start with
Avocado Toast.
