Well I traded this
for this all in one day. What a deal!I'm sure you heard some corny chicken jokes before. But here is mine "Why did the chicken cross the road halfway? She wanted to lay it on the line.
Indeed here is a photo of a rooster crossing the road and we saw plenty on our arrival on and off road.
This photo shows one protecting her chicks.

I read in a tour booklet that Kauai is the home to thousands of wild chickens. Gosh, what a paradise they live in.
Alert: Sleep can interrupted by roosters. They start crowing from 3:00 Am till sunrise!!
Kauai geologically is the oldest of the main Hawaiian islands. It is the fourth largest main island known as the Garden Isle. Tourism is their main industry. The largest group of tourists come from US followed by Japan. Some say this island is more representative of true Hawaiian life, more than Maui and Oahu. Two lane roads slow down the traffic to give you much time to enjoy the beaautiful lush landscapes and scenic ocean vistas.
Here is where the sticker shock comes in. We were warned ahead of time about the high cost of living being on an island:
gas ranges from $4.55-4.72
bananas $1.29
one gallon of water at home is .$84 here $2.00
milk $6.09 a gallon
cereal average range $5.50-$7.00
orange juice which really shocked me since this is a tropical state was well over $6.00 for one half gallon
Guess we will learn to become smarter and wiser about our shopping :)
Oh, gosh, it looks so lovely there, except for the chickens, which I pretty much cannot stand.
