Hill Country Wineries and Unusual Accommodations

Swiss businessman, Daniel Meyer fell in love with Texas Hill Country 10 years ago and decided to create his little Alpine Village outside Fredericksburg on 26 acres. There are 12 different structures on the property. A collection of authentic Swiss log cabins, a Victorian home and a Contestoga wagon on the banks of a winding creek Meyer even built himself. There is much to admire about this enterprise. Even Cabelas and Woolrich have had photo shoots in this Alpine Village. Many pieces of these cabins have been repurposed with wood pieces, doors and windows that were salvaged from log cabins being torn down in his hometown Lucerne in the Swiss Alps. Meyer had them shipped in containers via boat to the US.

We stayed in the Victorian home, once standing on Main Street in town built in late 1800's. It was moved to its present location 8 years ago. Inside it was quaint filled with a lot of interesting antiques.

But the one next door caught our immediate attention, a Contestoga wagon (looked like a gypsy wagon to me) 

It sleeps 4 with a lovely bathroom which was next door, a separate structure. We were lucky  today and got a tour and thought

all of it it was a creative use of space complete with AC much needed to survive the Texas heat  

The bathroom  a separate building had all the essentials.

Fredericksburg is known for its wineries. Wine Road 290 has dozens along one stretch.  We visited three and it was like being in the Tuscan region.
