Caramel Apple Crisp

Apples tossed with brown sugar and cinnamon are drizzled with a caramel sauce and topped with a crunchy crumb topping make for a delectable Caramel Apple Crisp. This caramel twist on the traditional fall favorite is decadent BUT well worth the splurge! My, oh my!
Ingredients: 
For the Apple Filling
  • 10 cups peeled, cored and sliced Granny Smith Apples (about 6-7 large apples)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 TB. all-purpose flour
  • 1 TB. Saigon cinnamon 
For the Caramel 
  • Use a prepared jar of salted caramel sauce (ice cream topping) 
For  the Topping 
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Saigon cinnamon
  • 1 cup Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 6 TB. melted butter
  • 3/4-1 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 9 inch baking dish or one that is a similar size.
  • Peel and dice apples. 
  • Prepare the apple filling: In a medium bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Sprinkle mixture over the apples and toss to coat.
  • Place in baking dish and drizzle 1/3 cup of the caramel sauce over the apples.
  • Prepare the topping: In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nuts and rolled oats. Stir in melted butter until evenly incorporated.  Use fingers to crumble topping and spread evenly over apples. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes or until apples are bubbling.
  • Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce over a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
