Weekend Round up

Over the weekend The Northwoods Arts Council in Hackensack presented Josh Duffee and his Big Band. The event paid tribute to the Carnegie Hall Concerts of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. It was a sold out event on both nights. 

Duffee, of Davenport, Iowa, is one of the world’s leading 1920’s style percussionists. He leads several musical groups in the Quad Cities area, including Josh Duffee and His Orchestra, an 11-piece dance orchestra that emulates the jazz sounds and style of the Jean Goldkette Orchestra of the 1920s. In addition to jazz, his ensembles perform music of great dance orchestras of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw. He performs at numerous jazz festivals and concerts worldwide, is an accomplished jazz historian and is music director for the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society.

This is the 4th year Josh Duffee and his Big Band have preformed a two day event in Hackensack. 

This couple had to get creative hoping to snag tickets. 

Some put on their dancing shoes and enjoyed the big band music and 

others  found the photo booth with a cityscape in the background a whole lot of fun during intermission.

Front and center was an honored guest (dressed in pink) ready to celebrate her upcoming 102 birthday! She was there both nights wearing her sparkly silver shoes. 

Lynne Hart from Cedar Rapids Iowa was featured performer on the Alto Sax/Clarinet.

A fun time had by all and looking forward to 2019 event that will feature women vocalists of the Swing Band Era
